Since 2000 overall plastic surgery procedures have risen 115 percent, according to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons! This major increase in procedures reflects the additional increase in addiction to plastic surgery.
According to Dr. Elliot Hirsch, board certified plastic surgeon, plastic surgery addiction is less of an addiction to plastic surgery, and more of a psychological issue related to body dysmorphic disorder (BDD).
BDD affects approximately 1 in 50 people, according to the International OCD Foundation. Many suffering from BDD will seek the aid of plastic surgery only to find themselves still unhappy with the results.
